Jesus was so popular as he came into Jerusalem that day. If they had brass bands in those days, there would have probably been one there. People were spreading palm branches, even clothing on the road in front of him.
Jesus came in as a man of peace, riding a donkey - a symbolic gesture to show that he wasn’t returning to Jerusalem as a conquering warrior but as a man of peace.
He rode into shouts of “Hosanna.” Not just “Hooray!” Not just chanting “Jesus!” but Hosanna—present tense—save us. So they were shouting, “Save us now!” Save them from what?
